Petya Marinova
(RGN, BSc, MSc, Nurse Prescriber)

Co-founder & Co-Director TWINS for iPouch & Stoma Patients Ltd

I began my nursing career in 2013 and have developed broad experience across both medical and surgical settings in Italy, Ireland, and the UK. Throughout my journey, I’ve maintained a strong interest in gastrointestinal and urinary health, which continues to shape and inspire my clinical practice. This passion prompted me to pursue a Master’s in stoma care and continence rehabilitation.

I’ve held various specialist nursing roles focused on the care of patients with stomas, ileoanal pouches, and enteric fistulae, providing specialist support across acute settings and nurse-led or consultant-led clinics. In 2022, I became Lead Nurse for Pouch and Stoma Care, with a focus on enhancing patient outcomes, advancing staff education, and implementing innovative, flexible working practices to promote staff well-being and sustainable service delivery.

In 2022, I completed a nurse prescribing qualification, which enhanced my scope of practice as an independent nurse practitioner. This has enabled me to continue delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, particularly for individuals with ileoanal pouches, stomas, and enteric fistulas.

In 2023, I received the New Talent Management & Leadership Healthcare Honours Award in recognition of my contributions to stoma and pouch care. This included co-authoring a patient handbook, leading educational initiatives, and driving service development projects aimed at improving patient outcomes. The award also acknowledged my commitment to pioneering flexible and remote working models, advancing digital service delivery, and providing consistent support, mentorship, and coaching to colleagues.

In 2024, guided by a passion for ipouch and stoma care, my twin sister and I, both advanced nurse practitioners in this field, decided it was the right time to launch our own company, dedicated to those with colorectal, gastrointestinal and urological needs, and this is how our vision became a reality: TWINS for iPouch & Stoma Patients Ltd.

As advanced nurse practitioners, we provide independent nursing services and outstanding, wholesome care tailored to our patients’ needs, delivering premium private stoma and pouch nursing, either in the comfort of patients’ homes or via remote support. We also offer expert nursing care for surgical wounds, drains, and other post-operative needs, ensuring accessible, high-quality support wherever it’s needed.

I have been extensively involved in research, service development, and education, with a strong track record of publishing and presenting at both national and international levels. My work has been featured in several British and Italian nursing journals, and I am proud to be a co-author of a patient-focused stoma care book.

I contributed to the NICE Health Technologies Evaluation Programme as a Stoma Care expert, specifically within the Late-Stage Assessment of one-piece closed bags for adults with a colostomy. This role allowed me to support evidence-based evaluation and help shape national guidance on technologies that directly impact patient care and outcomes.

I also serve on various Clinical Advisory Boards for stoma care, where I contribute clinical expertise to guide product development, service innovation, and strategic direction within the speciality.

I currently serve as the ASCN UK representative for the London area and work very closely with regional and national stoma and ileoanal pouch patient support groups, actively supporting the advancement of stoma and pouch care through professional collaboration and patient advocacy.

I regularly present at national and international conferences, including the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), the Association of Stoma Care Nurses UK (ASCN UK), the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET), the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ), and the Portuguese Association of Stoma Nurses. These platforms allow me to share insights, advocate for best practices, and contribute to advancing stoma and pouch care globally.

I have actively contributed to research, service development, and education, with several publications in both British and Italian nursing journals. I am also a co-author of a patient-focused stoma care book.

In 2022–2023, I was honoured to be shortlisted for the ASCN UK, Nursing Times, and BJN Awards. These nominations recognised my contribution as a co-author of a patient-focused stoma care book, as well as our team’s collective efforts in maintaining services throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, including the rapid digitalisation of care and development of effective remote working models

In 2023, I was also nominated for the BSG Trainer Award and the Student Nursing Times Awards in recognition of my ongoing commitment to mentoring, coaching, and training stoma and internal pouch nursing colleagues. These nominations reflect my dedication to advancing education and professional development within the speciality.

In 2024, driven by a passion for iPouch and stoma care, my twin sister and I, both advanced nurse practitioners in this field, launched our independent company: TWINS for iPouch & Stoma Patients Ltd, ensuring that those with colorectal, gastrointestinal and urological needs are supported holistically.

As specialist nurses, my sister and I provide premium, high-quality care, whether in the comfort of patients’ homes or via remote support. We also offer dedicated nursing services for surgical wounds, drains, and other post-surgical needs, ensuring compassionate, expert care wherever it’s needed.
